About The Author
Tell us more about you.
I grew up in Southern California and always wanted to do something creative, but worried about what people might think. I didn’t start writing in earnest until I was 39 and it was only once I published an essay in The Modern Love column that I decided I could give novel writing a try. I was 42.
What are the three items you’d take on a deserted island?
I’d take my favorite pillow, something I can play music on, and sunscreen.
Who is your biggest role model?
My dad. He taught me to seize every opportunity in life.
What is your favourite book and who is your favourite author?
That is a tough question as my favorite book/author has changed over the years. I guess for now I would say Jojo Moyes and Me Before You.
Do you prefer e-books, physical books or audiobook?
I prefer e-books because I can take multiple books with me anywhere.
Is writing your full-time profession or a hobby?
I wish writing could be my full-time profession, but I write part-time and I am also a physical therapist part-time.
What social media platform do you like and use the most?
I’m on a bunch of them! Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, TikTok, BlueSky, YouTube and LinkedIn. I post regularly on all of them, but tend to spend the bulk of my time on Facebook. Links to my socials:
Your Writing Process
How do you go about starting a new novel?
I try to have some idea of the major beats in a quasi-outline form and then just jump in. So I guess I am a bit of a plotter, but also a bit of a pantser.
Where do you like to write?
I like to write at home at the kitchen table or on the couch.
What do you like most about writing?
I love that I can disappear into any world, place, or scene I want. Writing hours are like seconds. I also love that I can imagine it and bring it to life on the page.
What do you find stops you from writing more?
Life’s obligations. I have kids and a dog, and I am also marketing my debut novel.
What genres do you like to write and why?
I like writing women’s fiction, but I also aspire to write a rom-com. I love these genres as they are the most relatable to me. I particularly like writing about women in their forties, as I feel that decade was very pivotal for me, and there are so many relatable themes I can explore. These are also the genres I most read.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to aspiring writers?
I would say that anyone who wants to write something should just start. It may not look or read the way you want initially, but the other piece of advice is to keep writing.
Practice really does make you better. Reading as much as possible is also advisable, not only to see what’s trending, but also to see what a book looks like, how the beats play out, etc. These two habits of writing consistently and reading can make anyone a better writer.

Showcase Your Book!
How many books have you written and if more than one, what’s your favourite?
I have written 4 books, but so far have only published one. Gap Year.
How long did Gap Year take you to write?
About 2 years.
Lastly, what is your favourite thing about being an author?
I love that I can connect with other people by writing something. Hearing a reader say they relate and were touched by something I wrote because it is a human experience is so gratifying. It makes this large world feel so much smaller.
