Tell us more about you.

My name is Mary Kay Cunningham I’m an indie author from East Tennessee. I’ve been published for a little over a year but have been writing since I was ten years old. Before i started writing romance novels | wrote poetry. Which is what majority of my books are.

  • My favorite things to do are write, read, and listen to music.
  • My favorite artists are mgk and Jessie Murph. My favorite colors are purple and black.
  • And my favorite shows are Supernatural along with Gilmore Girls.

What are the three items you’d take on a deserted island?

  • A container for water
  • A knife
  • A book.

Who is your biggest role model?

I have three: my mom, my grandma, and my papaw. All three of them have shown me in different ways the definitions of resilience and strength.

What is your favourite book and who is your favourite author?

My favorite book changes constantly but at the moment it’s my last read, “After The Storm” by Jensen Kate. My favorite author is Moonsoulchild.

Do you prefer e-books, physical books or audiobook?

I prefer E-books or audiobooks, the only time I buy physical copies is if I have already read the book most of the time.

Is writing your full-time profession or a hobby?

Full-time profession.

What social media platform do you like and use the most?

Your Writing Process

How do you go about starting a new novel?

I plan a little as far as figuring out the characters, doing research on the setting, and starting the outline.

Occasionally, I will just jump right in, though. Sometimes I get impatient and just want to.

Where do you like to write?

I can write anywhere, but my favorite places to write are my bed or living room.

What do you like most about writing?

The way it helps me escape from, but also decipher my own feelings or reality.

What do you find stops you from writing more?

Myself, sometimes I get too into my head about my writing and I stop myself from writing more without realizing.

What genres do you like to write and why?

Dark Thriller Romance and Poetry.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to aspiring writers?

Never push yourself to write, the right writing will always happen when it is intended to.

How many books have you written and if more than one, what’s your favourite?

I have written 22 books (check them out on Amazon). Out of all of them, I would say my favorite poetry book is Fear Of The Unknown. A poetry and mantra collection I wrote last year, all about the anxiety of not knowing what the future may hold. And my favorite romance novel l’ve written is my newest book, Her Flowers.

How long did Her Flowers take you to write?

A month and a half.

Lastly, what is your favourite thing about being an author?

The ability it gives me to not only make others feel something but to possibly help them heal from something. No matter what that may look like.
