About The Author

Tell us more about you

I’m a clumsy cyclist! I have terrible balance, so I never turn right. It makes long journeys interesting haha.

What are the three items you’d take on a deserted island?

  1. A thick book, maybe fantasy or sci-fi. Not something I have already read because I never read a book more than once.
  2. A decent mattress! I’m very grumpy if I don’t get a good night sleep and I can’t think of much worse than sleeping on a cactus.
  3. My clay and sculpting tools. I love to create sculptures and shapes. Maybe I’d make a model of the waves?

Who is your biggest role model?

I’m a big fan of Greta Thunberg. I love how she knows what’s important, and nothing gets in her way.

What is your favourite book and who is your favourite author?

I’m sorry to have I don’t have either! I love many books and am forever coming across new and fab authors. However, as a teen, I adored The Bronte’s. I was seeking some wild darkness.

Do you prefer e-books, physical books or audiobooks?

Physical books. I had a ten-year phase when I only read ebooks but I’m back with paper now.

Is writing your full-time profession or a hobby?

Writing is only a hobby, sadly. I’m a teacher.

What social media platform do you like and use the most?

I’m really enjoying BlueSky, where my feed is bursting with creativity: BlueSky.

Your Writing Process

How do you go about starting a new novel?

With the title lol. Then I think for days until the ideas come. By the time I hit the keyboard, the characters are fully formed ppl. I don’t write in a linear fashion, though. My books are slightly chaotic.

Where do you like to write?

Anywhere quiet!

What do you like most about writing?

The creative process. That a world is made from my head and people actually read my books. It’s wild! Lol. I also love that ppl who struggle to find a place in the world can do well. We’re seeing more and more books by disabled and neurodivergent ppl who are vastly unrepresented in all areas of life. Here I am, baby.

What do you find stops you from writing more?

Work. It crushes me and steals my creativity.

What genres do you like to write and why?

I enjoy sci-fi, romance fantasy, and horror. As long as it’s queer I can get into it. I yearn to write more horror, where there are no limits. I enjoy dabbling with the darkness.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to aspiring writers?

Don’t give up. Keep going. Trust yourself. Be generous with your time but think of you too. That’s more than one because I am greedy. Hah.

Showcase your books!

How many books have you written and if more than one, what’s your favourite?

Around thirty… I’m not sure, lol. I don’t have a favourite, but I love The Hungry Butterfly.

How long did The Hungry Butterfly take to write?

Years lol. I got halfway through and then the pandemic hit and I left it until last year.

Lastly, what is your favourite thing about being an author?

When a reader ‘gets’ my work, it makes up for all the times in life when I have failed because of ableism and prejudice.
