About The Author

Tell us more about you.

I was born and raised in a small industrial town in the county of Cheshire, north of England. Famous town for building classy Rolls Royce motor cars and very modern railway engines.

I’m a nature boy and love green in any shade. Wanted to be a farmer when I was tiny. Love animals.

What are the three items you’d take on a deserted island?

Something to write with and to write on, and a basic recording device to hear bird song.

Who is your biggest role model?

My biggest role model is my late big brother John, who conducted his life like a saint in many ways. Handsome, cheerful, talented, and a great father to his kids. Always envied him and his achievements. I still try and follow his example to do good.

What is your favourite book and who is your favourite author?

My favourite book presently is “All the Young Men” by Ruth Coker Burks. The amount of information she packs into this book is astounding. I am in awe of this lady.

Do you prefer e-books, physical books or audiobook?

I prefer physical books to hold, and I love to smell the new paper.

Is writing your full-time profession or a hobby?

I am not a full-time writer yet, I’m a professional British stage actor, having appeared in 7 productions in London’s West End and an exciting run in and off-Broadway production of NARNIA by C.S. Lewis. The late Clive Donner, the movie director, directed me in two movies, “Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush” at United Artists and “Alfred the Great” at M.G.M.

When I was 20 years old, I worked with the legendary American star Phil Silvers (Sgt Bilko) in the UK version of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” He was super kind to me, a complete unknown, and I’m proud I met him.

What social media platform do you like and use the most?

Your Writing Process

How do you go about starting a new novel?

I was asked by a university student if he could interview me, record my voice and use the information for his final paper for his Master’s Degree. He got a first-class honours degree. I listened to my recording talking of my personal life, wrote down bullet points of what I had said, and the points grew to paragraphs over days. Then they became a few pages or two then realised I was writing a book about mostly my own life’s experiences.

Where do you like to write?

I wrote my book bit by bit over many months in my tiny office at home in Brighton, UK, where I live.

What do you like most about writing?

The freedom writing gave me to express myself on anything I wanted to say was exciting and exhilarating. I will write more if the outcome of the Nine-Year Cycle, my first attempt, is successful. That will spur me on as I have more to say.

What genres do you like to write and why?

If I write more, it will be documented, realistic life stories that I already understand know about and can expand on. Airy fairy novels I could not attempt.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to aspiring writers?

You must totally believe what you are writing about or there is no point in beginning. Do your background homework to get your fact and figures sorted out.

Showcase Your Book!

How many books have you written and if more than one, what’s your favourite?

Not written a book before; this is my first.

How long did Nine-Year Cycle take you to write?

With Covid constantly interrupting me, stopping and starting because of family and friends being so ill, it took approximately three years to complete.

Lastly, what is your favourite thing about being an author?

I loved to bring to life my thoughts and experiences on the page before my very eyes. Exciting experience.
