About The Author

Tell us more about you.

I love the colour yellow. I have done since I was a little girl. It’s so bright and cheerful and happy. If I’m in a bad mood, all I need to do is look at something yellow for a little while and my spirits have lifted.

What are the three items you’d take on a deserted island?

I would take my kindle and, if I was being practical, a large sun hat and food. If I wasn’t feeling very sensible, probably apple crumble and a bean bag.

Who is your biggest role model?

I have different role models all the time. At the moment, I’m loving Kumiko Love, who is also known as The Budget Mom. She has brought herself from being hugely in debt to owning her own business and buying her own house and car with cash! It’s such an inspiration.

What is your favourite book and who is your favourite author?

This changes regularly because there are always more amazing books coming out, but I love Lover At Last by JR Ward. I don’t really have a favourite author, but I do like Christine Feehan, Lora Leigh, Suzanne Brockmann to name a few.

Do you prefer e-books, physical books or audiobook?

If money was no option, I’d buy paperbacks. I do like being able to take books wherever you want to though on a kindle, but I love paperbacks.

Is writing your full-time profession or a hobby?

I went from being a part time author with a job as a nursery assistant, to a full time author for around 4 years. The I kind of go cabin fever and ended up going to back to part time authoring and a full time job as a Business and Finance Manager with a charity. It’s definitely difficult to balance everything but I love it all.

What social media platform do you like and use the most?

I don’t like any of them, lol! I much prefer Instagram but I think I’m on Facebook more. Mainly because that’s where my reader group is. Links to my socials:

Your Writing Process

How do you go about starting a new novel?

My books start from the characters. I create an entire human being, with dates of birth, middle names, quirks, family and friends and everything like that. As I’m creating them, a story usually teases out from it and I have my storyline. Then I tweak it as I go.

Where do you like to write?

I prefer to write at my desk in my bedroom. I can pretty much write anywhere as long as I have my headphones if it’s noisy.

What do you like most about writing?

I like being able to create my own world, even in contemporary, and break the rules to ensure the relationships stands its ground and wins.

What do you find stops you from writing more?

My full time job! And my kids! I would love to have 48 hours in a day

What genres do you like to write and why?

I love writing gay romance because as far as I’m concerned, when you go into reading a heterosexual book, even if you tell yourself you’re not going in with stereotypical thoughts, you are. With a gay couple, that balance is gone straight away – unless you put it there. Hopefully, I’ve explained that well enough. I like being able to make the relationship unbalanced – if I want to. I don’t want it to already be there just because one is historically thought of as a weaker sex. Gay romance gives me the option to write them however I want them to be.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to aspiring writers?

Just get the words down. Everything else will come after.

Showcase Your Book!

How many books have you written and if more than one, what’s your favourite?

I have written over 50 books in my 6+ years of publishing. Choosing a favourite is like choosing a favourite child – but if you insist. I would choose Rogue Royal because I love the book itself and also this book was where my writing became ‘me.’ I knew who I was and how I wrote and it showed. At least in my opinion.

How long did Rogue Royal take you to write?

It took me about 2 months. Because it was the first in the series, I was able to create the world as I wanted it, and a lot it flowed really well. I can easily write a book in a month if I had the time, but I’m getting older.

Lastly, what is your favourite thing about being an author?

I like being able to craft something that I saw in my head in words that can make someone else see what I see or feel what I feel. I love losing myself in the world I’ve created – and being able to change things at a whim!
