Last First Kiss Book Review – E.M. Denning
I have been wanting to read this book forever and I’m glad that I finally got around to doing so. It was almost everything I’d hoped it would be and such a journey. Some people have said there isn’t an element of conflict within the book to make it an actual story but I totally disagree.
I read some of the reviews for Last First Kiss after I finished the book, some I totally agree with, others not so much. Now don’t get me wrong, this was an amazing book but there were elements I would have done differently. Take a look below for my full review.
Spoilers are in italics so watch out for them if you’ve not read the book and don’t want to spoil it.
Last First Kiss – E.M. Denning Synopsis
Logan Hanson returns to his hometown with a broken heart and nothing to show for it. Jobless and friendless, he struggles to adjust, especially in a place that isn’t exactly welcoming. Things look bleak until his dad’s best friend, Ezra Black, steps in with a lifeline.
Ezra, an openly bisexual man, has always been comfortable in the small town, but gossip about his connection with Logan makes him question his acceptance. Offering Logan a job, Ezra hopes to help him rebuild his life. As they spend more time together, one kiss changes everything.
Their new relationship faces challenges: small-town rumours, a disapproving friend, and a father who doesn’t understand. All Ezra wants is for Logan to be his last first kiss—but is their love strong enough to overcome it all?
Last First Kiss Overall Rating – 4.3/5
I really liked this book. Yes, as you can see below some bits did bug me but overall not so much. It was a great read and perfect for anyone that likes an age gap, low spice love story. It was playful, fun and easy to follow for my dyslexic brain!
Let me know what you thought about Last First Kiss – E.M. Denning and if you agree with my rating or if you think I was either too nice or too harsh. I loved writing this Last First Kiss book review and I’m sure I’ll read it again in the future. I’m reading the add on at the moment even though I’m writing this in October and I normally leave Christmas books for December but I just couldn’t wait!
Last First Kiss Plot – 4.5/5
The plot was super easy to follow which is great, there weren’t any weird names or hard-to-pronounce places so it was perfect for my dyslexic brain. It was a decent love story, age gap trope and I loved it. I’ve not read many age-gap books yet but if they’re anything like Last First Kiss I’ll be diving into more.
Last First Kiss Characters – 4.8
I loved the characters in Last First Kiss! It wasn’t even always the main characters that I loved the most, but everybody who was woven throughout the entire book.
The towns folk were horrible to Logan to start, but when Clark showed up, they all kind of rallied behind him, which made my heart melt. Logan’s dad accepting that he’d messed up a lot and being okay with Ezra and Logan, which made my heart melt. The audacity of Clark to show up and act how he did enraged me, and I’m so glad we saw him be the dick he was!
Last First Kiss Emotional Factor – 5
Last First Kiss hit all the emotional trigger points for me and although I wasn’t in floods of tears, that’s not always what it’s about. There were chapters that had me smiling with joy, heated chapters with the low spice that got my blood pumping, and sad moments where my heartstrings were pulled, especially with all of Logans self-doubts.
When the townspeople rallied behind Logan it made me prideful, when Logan was confronted by Clark it made me both angry and sad. Last First Kiss was emotional from start to finish and that’s exactly what I look for in a book, otherwise, it can be boring as hell.
Last First Kiss Ending – 3
Endings are so hit-and-miss for me and I felt like this ending kind of missed the mark and I’ve seen reviews that confirm this for me so I know it’s not just my thinking. The ending felt very abrupt for me, like it just ended out of nowhere and there was SO MUCH more that could have been done and said.
I was hoping that Logan would move in with Ezra and they’d build a huge house for them on the land that Ezra owned. That they’d actually ditch the condoms after it being built up so much in the book about how Ezra only used them until he truly loved a person. The ending was very sudden and I think there could have been at least a couple more chapters thrown in.
However, the ending was very sweet with them both declaring their love which we all knew was coming so it did have that going for it. I never rate endings all that high and I’m super critical of them which is why I’ve rated the ending for Last First Kiss in this book review a 3 out of 5.
Last First Kiss Spice Rating – 3
I don’t include spice ratings in the overall rating because I find that some books have spice and some don’t so that would be unfair. However, I do like to touch on spice and how it played out in the book.
Last First Kiss had a low spice setting throughout, when there was spice it was very sexy and passionate, not heated and fast like some books. It was well thought out and decent. The spice was great but it wasn’t heavy and was laced throughout the book and focused more on the building romance between Ezra and Logan which was nice to see.
