Prophesied Son Book Review – Tim Samson

So unlike most of the books I read, this isn’t an LGBTQ+ book! I have started stepping out of my comfort zone and reading different genres. I find this helpful with my own writing as well as it inspires me with new ideas. This was my indie book of the month for October and I have mixed feelings so hang in there with me.

Spoilers will be in italics so if you haven’t read the Prophesied Son yet, make sure you don’t ruin it for yourself!

The Prophesied Son Synopsis

Lux, raised as an emotionless alien soldier, must now choose between following his training or forging a new path when he meets her.

Simeria, a tortured human princess turned weapon, has escaped her father’s cruelty and seeks revenge. But after meeting Lux, her quest for vengeance is challenged.

Together, they uncover dark secrets about Lux’s creation and a hidden threat to the universe. Their choices will determine the fate of all life.

Prophesied Son Rating – 4.3/5

I really, really liked this book and can’t wait for the next instalment if I’m honest. I didn’t know what to make of it to start as I normally only read LGBGTQ+ books and don’t step out of my comfort zone often but I’m glad that I did.

I found that some of the concepts within the novel were weird but so cool, like the ship’s designs modelled after a boat, so weird and so good! I loved Alice and Bleake and can’t wait to see what’s in store for them in the next novel!

Let me know what you think. Was I too nice? Too harsh? Or just right? I really loved this book, it’s one of my highest rated and it’s not often I step out of my LGBTQ+ genre and I’m glad I did.

Prophesied Son Plot – 4.5

I really enjoyed the plot. I found some of the words a little difficult for rolling off the tongue but once you get past that you can see how the plot weaves and builds throughout the entire book. There are twists and turns throughout the entire book, however, some things were obvious to me or at least I had a feeling.

The betrayal at the end of the book was nicely done. However, I did have a feeling that it was going to happen, that said, I was surprised at how quickly Lux just rolled over and accepted the betrayal, and that didn’t seem true to the character because he’s always given a little bit of pushback before.

Prophesied Son Characters – 4.5

Okay, so there are quite a few characters in this book and a lot of names to keep track of so if you’re bad at remembering names, sorry. However, the characters were great, they grew throughout the entire book and when we learned more about them I was overjoyed.

Spoilers because dam when I found that Bleake was gay I jumped for joy! Sci-Fi, Fantasy etc. are all great concepts and genres but they seem to always forget that LGBTQ+ people exist that just doesn’t make sense to me in these genre so to see that Tim Samson added an LGBTQ+ character without making it a huge deal, was amazing and a testament to his writing.

I would also like to see the boy from the start of the book, the other apprentice, in the next book please and thank you.

Prophesied Son Ending – 4

I hate endings, I find that endings can be hit or miss and thankfully Prophesied Son didn’t miss. It was a huge cliffhanger for sure but that’s because there’s a second book in the Trudicator Series and we’ll get answers to the unanswered questions.

The whole “I’m….” was pretty good, it’s obvious she was going to say pregnant but dam how I want the next book to start with something like “I’m… Farting” would be hilarious! The Ending did wrap some questions up and it was nice to see that mostly everyone survived although I was expecting something more, something like a betrayal or a death. I guess I’ll wait to see what the next instalment holds.

Prophesied Son Emotional Rating – 4.5

Emotions, this book had quite a few that’s for sure. If you’re looking for an emotional journey with amazing sci-fi, you’ve found it.

This is all spoilers because I can’t help myself. Dam that spicy scene, I hope there’s more in the next instalment because darn that was good. I want to see more spice in the next book as there was only one chapter worth in this book. The emotions invoked when they’re space jumping or on the planet shield almost dead, I held my breath! Prophesied Son brought out a whole range of emotions with ease and that’s something not a lot of authors can attribute to their writing.

Prophesied Son Spice – 4

There was some very spicy spice in this book, unfortunately it was only really limited to one chapter. I know there were concerns because it didn’t fit in with the whole no emotions thing but it really showed the growth that Lux had. It also showed him do a total 180 when it came to his sex drive you can tell what took over.

I loved the spice scene and I hope that there is more in the next book. I don’t include spice ratings in the overall rating because not all books have spice but I love to talk about what I thought anyway.
