About The Author
Tell us more about you
My name is Jack Strange. I’m a Welsh author and I spent some time living in Vancouver, Canada. I love cats, love books, love writing, and I read tarot cards and delve into astrology.
What are the three items you’d take on a deserted island?
I’d definitely take a book, but I suppose it would have to be one I wouldn’t mind re-reading over and over again, because in my head I’d be on this island for a long time. Unless I can come and go as freely as possible, now you’ve got me thinking differently. So, I’d take a book, something warm for the cold nights, and maybe another book. Otherwise, if I can come and go, god knows!
Who is your biggest role model?
I really like Britney, and I admire her so much, especially with everything that she has been through. I liked her ability to be able to carry on doing what she did without letting it stop her from her artistry. I think anyone that is able to be resilient during tough times is worth noting, and I could delve into Britney’s situation so much, but I will always respect Britney.
What is your favourite book and who is your favourite author?
I really loved Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski. Something about the setting, the writing and the story really stuck with me, and it’s something I’ve gone back to read. I’m eagerly anticipating the next book, if there is one!
Do you prefer e-books, physical books or audiobooks?
I see pros to all, but I love paperbacks!

Is writing your full-time profession or a hobby?
It is my profession, but it’s not full-time yet. Hopefully, one day it will be. But I write in my day job, too, so it’s not all bad.
What social media platform do you like and use the most?
I use Instagram and TikTok the most. I waste so much time on them. My Instagram and TikTok is: @jackstrangeauthor
Your Writing Process
How do you go about starting a new novel?
I don’t plan, maybe I should. But I have a vague writing idea and I might know some points I want to get to, but mostly I have a glimmer of an idea and I build off that as I go along. I jump right in, because I like the characters to come to life in my first draft, my draft that I use to get to know the story and the characters. I like to be surprised and see them take a life of their own.
Where do you like to write?
Always at home. I have a writing room and I like it to be quiet. Doesn’t always happen, though, and the writing room is unfortunately temporary!
What do you like most about writing?
I like being able to have a creative outlet, and have something to explore. I like creating stories and writing characters. I find it a fun process. I just really love storytelling.
What do you find stops you from writing more?
TikTok, Instagram, distractions from people I live with, and self-doubt!
What genres do you like to write and why?
I love writing romance, because I’ve always loved romcoms. I grew up reading romance books and watching romance films. I’m actually a Valentine’s baby, so I feel like love is in my blood! I also really like to write cosy mystery, too. I hope one day to write a horror.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to aspiring writers?
It’s so simple, but keep going. If you want it, if you want to see it published, then keep going. It’s not easy, it’s not straightforward, and you will always be rejected by publishers and readers. But eventually, with every word you type, you’re making progress, and eventually you will be honed enough to believe, and someone will see your talent and take a punt on you, and it will happen. Just keep writing. Keep going. Keep sight of the bigger goal and picture.
Showcase your books!
How many books have you written and if more than one, what’s your favourite?
I’ve written countless, but two are under contract and one has been published. I’ve been writing since a young age, and some books should never have seen the light of day. I’ve got a cosy mystery I’m trying to get published. I’m really excited for my second rom com because I really love the story. Hopefully that should be available at some point next year.
How long did Look Up, Handsome take you to write?
I started writing Look Up, Handsome in November 2021 after a cosy day of watching Hallmark films. I spent all of 2022 writing it, and refining it, and it got a deal in May/June time in 2023. It published September 2024.
Lastly, what is your favourite thing about being an author?
I love when I have someone contact me and say that they wished books like mine existed when they were younger, because that’s ultimately why I set out to write in the first place. I want to be able to tell stories that I was craving when I was younger, and for someone to come along and read it and find something good inside it.
