Wow! I always said I didn’t like dark romance but it’s just like me to be proved wrong in the world of fiction! I picked up All I Want For Christmas Is Revenge by K.A. Merikan after getting a few recommendations about it although I had heard some weird stuff and was a little put-off, because as I have always said; dark romance is not my thing.

K.A. Merikan proved me wrong. This Christmas, totally gay and delicious dark romance novel threw me over it’s knee and gave me a spanking for being so grossed out by others opinions and told me off! It opened my eyes to a whole new world of fiction, one that I’m going to slowly dip my toes into but I 100% recommend this to anyone that needs a gentle introduction to gay dark romance literature.

Now of course I’m going to do a All I Want For Christmas Is Revenge book review, K.A. Merikan should be proud. As always, spoilers will be in italics so make sure you avoid them if you haven’t read the book. All I Want For Christmas Is Revenge Plot – 5

The plot was sound, I didn’t find any plot holes while reading and I was very impressed. There were times when I got a little confused but that could have just been my brain. It was amazing to see parts that happened in the book come back around and it was like watching an episode of Hustle where it all made sense.

I want to touch on something, a lot of plots are fantasy, fairy tales and everything is always nice and shiny but All I Want For Christmas Is Revenge touched on things such as how to prepare to be a bottom which I have never seen a novel do so far in my reading carrer and it’s that kind of small but underrated inclusion that makes me think, yes this author gets it. They don’t make it into a big thing but I know they’ve thought about what it means to be a gay dude getting himself plowed for the first time, ya know?

Okay, so I might ruffle some feathers and I’m sorry for that but I didn’t like some of the characters in the book. Overall, they were great and I will say they were well described and you could build a clear image of how they looked, acted and talked which was essential.

I went through I hate him and I love him stages with Saint. I totally understand his character but sometimes he just felt like a wet sponge, he’s this amazing hitman but he can’t express his feelings without grabbing Rowan round the throat? I will say that I loved Rowan and I was a bit sad when he didn’t stand up to chuck but on the flip side I wish they’d killed him or at least done more than Saint giving him a talking to.

Oh so there is total emotion in this and I loved it. I got happy, sad, happy crying and even though this is my first dark romance book my heart was pounding in my chest when the darkness came out. You’ll probably cry happy tears as well as I shed one or two.

The best and I mean the best part of this book in my height of FUCK YES emotion was when Rowan pushed him down the escalator, bloody French kiss! Also when they were doing it in front of the police station and then got arrested in the same cell, genius!

All I Want For Christmas Is Revenge Ending – 4.5

I normally hate endings but this one, this one was amazing. It wrapped everything up nice and neatly. I didn’t really have any burning questions left to ask but there was one thing that bugged me which is below in spoiler form.

All I Want For Christmas Is Revenge Dark Romance Rating – 2.5

So this was my introduction to dark romance and I’m so glad it was. I’m not going to lie I saw some people overhyping the dark romance part of this and I think that’s one of the reasons it took me so long to pick it up. If you’re looking for a more gentle introduction to gay dark romance, this is the one you need.

Spoiler alert but there was no way I couldn’t put this in the review. When Saint picked the guy up and poetic justice that ensues I won’t lie, I fucking yelped, cheered and smiled.

Not all books have spice, just like dark romance so I don’t include them in the overall rating. What I will say is the spice was god dam spicy. It was the right tempo, the right roles and although I thought it was hot as hell I would have liked a bit more versatility with Rowan, I know the roles didn’t call for that but as their romantic interests grew it would have been great to see Saint let down that solid shield around him just once.
