Anyone But Me Book Review – JD Frost

If I’m writing a review you best believe that I loved that book. Writing reviews takes time and sometimes it’s not worth it but I believe this book should have all of the promo that it deserves as it truly is a masterpiece. It had me in tears, screaming with joy, the spice was out of this work and honestly, it’s now in my top three holding second place, beaten only by Date Me Bryson Keller!

If you didn’t know, I pick an indie book each month to read and Anyone But Me was my pick for September and I’m so glad I got it after seeing it hundreds of times on TikTok!

If you’re looking for a book packed with spice, adventure, self discover and enemies to lovers, this is the book for you! I could not put it down and within 3 days I was sad that I’d already finished it!

Spoilers are marked in italics so if you haven’t read this book yet, don’t spoil it for yourself as it’s that good!

Anyone But Me Synopsis

What do you do when your tormentor becomes your protector?

Oakley Farrow isn’t your average high school senior. While juggling late-night study sessions and worrying about his future, he’s also dealing with an abusive uncle and trying to protect his sister. On top of that, he endures relentless bullying from Asher Brooks, the arrogant star quarterback.

But everything shifts when Asher notices the bruises on Oakley that he didn’t cause, and his usual cruel demeanour turns into concern. Now, Oakley’s life is about to get a lot more complicated.

Anyone But Me Book Rating – 4.7/5

I’ve already said that I love this book, that’s no surprise and you can tell from the rating that it got! I’d love to know if you think I was too nice, too harsh or just right? This book has everything for me and surprisingly there weren’t any mistakes I can remember, no typos etc. I totally recommend giving this book a try and hopefully this Anyone But Me book review has helped persuade you too as well!

Also, I’d like to note that this is one of the highest ratings that I’ve ever given!

Anyone But Me Plot – 4.8

The plot was amazing. I loved the conflict, I loved how it was so easy to follow, it flowed throughout the entire book and it’s a great read for dyslexics. I would also say that I didn’t find any plot holes so to speak.

Some people have commented that parts are unrealistic like Ashers dad just switching to a caring and considerate parent or how Asher finally kissed Oakley out of the blue. Personally, I like to believe that parents are capable of change for their children and that Asher finally just woke up and came to his senses!

I loved the dual perspectives as well. I say this because a lot of books will just use chapters to do their various perspectives. However, JD Frost in my mind was a genius for this, the plot flowed with ease thanks to the fate that bestowed Oakley and the jump into Ashers perspective was flawless without a doubt.

Anyone But Me Charachters – 4.6

Okay, so the characters. I will start by saying that they were well written, described really well and it was easy to build a picture in your head. I also loved the personal growth for almost every character in the book and not just the main protagonists. The growth from Asher was done masterfully.

That being said, I wish nothing but the worst for the sheriff, even if he is no longer with us. I hated him to the point it made my blood boil!

Anyone But Me Emotional Rating – 5

Okay so I get emotional reading books, I’m an empathetic person and I can take in the emotions written on the page. This book gets a huge 5 star rating from me, it was excellent and it had me feeling all of the emotions!

Every time Oakley would be abused by his uncle I would feel my blood boil with haterd towards the dumbhead sherif. Every time Asher and Oakley would hook up I was a little hot under the collar. What go me feeling the most however is how I cried pretty much all through Ashers perspective and how I could feel what he felt from the words written on the page! It’s a solid 5 star for the use of emotions!

Anyone But Me Ending – 4.5

So I’m not the biggest fans with endings, we all know that by now. That being said I think the ending for Anyone But Me was pretty solid. I was a bit annoyed that Oakley got all pouty when he thought he was being proposed to and that wasn’t the case. However, I can see where JD Frost was coming from and it was still written really well.

I’d also like to point out that I had no questions left unanswered and I’m pretty sure this is the highest rating I’ve ever given for an ending!

Anyone But Me Spice Rating – 5

If I could I’d rate the spice 10 out of 5! It was so damn good! A lot of books have spice in them but they miss the mark. This was written to perfection and it felt like something gay guys would actually say, instead of the books that use weird words like length or member and then go on to explain the body parts of a man in really weird detail!

The fun house scene, bloody hell that knocked my socks off! The store cupboard, just wow! I can’t rate the spice enough in this book and honestly, it was perfection! It’s a shame I don’t include spice ratings in my overall ratings!

Anyone But Me Video Review

I LOVED this book, it’s understandable as to why I rated it so highly, it’s quite frankly a work of art. Talking about art, I love the book but I wish there was more to the cover. I have this thing about having custom badged made of my favourite book but I wish it had something extra to it.

I would easily recommend this book to anyone that is looking for an MM spicy novel that they can sink their teeth into. I read it over a three day period and if I wasn’t unwell I’d probably have finished it the same day!
