The Alpha’s Son Book Review – Penny Jessup
Gay werewolves? Sign me up quick! I love a little LGBTQ+ fantasy and this one totally hit the mark, it had the LGBTQ+ factor and the fantasy factor mixed throughout the entire book. I was so happy when this came out as I was following it on social media and I read it as soon as it arrived!
This book left me with some mixed emotions and if I’m correct a lot of people felt the same way about the book. There will be a second instalment which I’m excited to read but for now, this is my The Alpha’s Son Book Review.
Major spoilers to the plot are marked in italics so be warned if you’ve not already read The Alpha’s Son.
The Alpha’s Son Synopsis
Max Remus isn’t interested in finding a mate like the rest of his fate-obsessed pack. He’d rather spend time with his best friend, enjoy his dad’s steak sandwiches, and sketch.
But at the Blue Moon Festival—a camp where Elite Pack wolves find their mates—everything changes. This year, the alpha’s son, Jasper Apollo, is attending, and Max finds himself unexpectedly linked to the handsome yet arrogant heir. Now, Max must face feelings he never expected.
Will rejecting destiny come with consequences? The Alpha’s Son is a captivating Boys Love, wolf shifter romance, packed with yearning, comedy, and adventure.
The Alpha’s Son Rating – 3.6/5
Okay, so I had a lot to say about The Alpha’s Son book so if you think I’ve been to harsh or too nice, please do let me know. I still think it was a good book but some bits annoyed me and I think others at the same time. I wish I could rate it higher but I just think that the ending tainted it a little in my mind.
The Alpha’s Son Plot – 4
I liked the plot, it flowed and was easy to read. Overall, there was suspense and it made you want to read on but at times it got a little too repetitive for my liking which is why I can only give it a 4. Not to mention that it was a slow start. However, I thought that the chapter lengths were spot on and you didn’t feel like you had been reading for hours!
I won’t lie, I did like the epic fight/battle scenes and I hope for more in the next instalment that’s for sure.
The Alpha’s Son Charachters – 3.5
Now where to start! I’m just going to start with saying this all has spoilers in it. I liked Max and Jasper as characters but here’s what annoyed me. The endless need of Max trying to prove his worth to Jasper when it was obvious and although it probably wasn’t meant to come across this way but Jasper felt like a total fuck boy who couldn’t make up his mind and really needed to let go of whatever trailer full of baggage he had. I wish I could rate it higher but I can’t.
The Alpha’s Son Emotional Rating – 4
This made me emotional but probably not in the way you think. It might sound like I hated this book but honestly it wasn’t that bad. I did hate the ending so that was one emotional response but at the same time there were cute moments throughout and just kiss already moments so it kinda of had everything you could want.
The Alpha’s Son Ending – 3
Now here’s where I go off on one. I hate endings because they can either be done just right or crash and burn and I feel like the smoke is still clearing from this wreckage. The whole will they won’t they throughout the book was nice if not a little repetitive but when all seems to go their way and Jasper finally gets his head out of his ass he then turns round and leaves Max stood there. I know it’s supposed to be a cliffhanger but if anything it just made me hate Jasper even more, that being said I am looking forward to the second instalment to see if Jasper can get over himself and this weird notion of pride and duty over love.
The Alpha’s Son Spice Rating – 1
There wasn’t really any spice in this book, some cute romantic moments and some, I’ll save your hide because I’m totally into you moments but other than that, it was pretty tame for a werewolf! Don’t worry I won’t be adding this 1 rating into the overall rating of the book as that’s not fair.
