About The Author

Tell us more about you

A fun fact about me that is also embarrassing is that I read so many books about dragons as a kid that I thought they were real until I was about eight. A girl at school sneered at me that they were made up. I somehow played it off and choked back the tears. I love all things green.

What are the three items you’d take on a deserted island?

Hmm, a blanket, a machete, and the Complete works of William Shakespeare.

Who is your biggest role model?

James Baldwin. A towering intellect and a brilliant talent. He exhibited grace his entire life.

What is your favourite book and who is your favourite author?

My favourite book is Kafka on the Shore, and my favourite author is Haruki Murakami.

Do you prefer e-books, physical books or audiobooks?

I think I’m in the minority, but I love e-books and audiobooks. The dog on the cover of Regna Born is my dog. He’s enormous, so he needs treks, not walks. I love to listen to audiobooks while we’re on our adventures.

Is writing your full-time profession or a hobby?

I have a day job. I work for a large asset management company in the U.S. Please don’t put off saving for retirement, folks. Your future self is depending on you.

What social media platform do you like and use the most?

I used to love Twitter until it turned into a far-right dumpster fire. Now, I focus on Threads and Instagram but also enjoy Bluesky. It’s where most of us Twitter refugees fled.

Your Writing Process

How do you go about starting a new novel?

My writing process is evolving because Regna Born is my debut. I did write a novel some years ago, but it belongs in the drawer in which it resides never to see the light of day. I thought I was a panster, but I’m falling somewhere between panster and plotter. I think a rough outline works well for me, where I envision the beginning, middle, and end. I then work toward it.

Where do you like to write?

At home at my desk, which is actually a bed, but as cliché as writing in a café is, it works for me. Away from the distractions of home, coupled with unfettered access to my favorite drug, caffeine is something I should do more often.

What do you like most about writing?

Learning about myself and becoming more empathetic. A mentor of mine, David Samuel Levinson, please read him if you haven’t already, said that creating something from nothing is heady, and he’s right.

What do you find stops you from writing more?

A demanding full-time job.

What genres do you like to write and why?

I love fantasy, but I first tried to write a cosy mystery. I love cosy mysteries; they’re like a warm blanket in winter, but I couldn’t get the tone quite right. Fantasy allows me to explore human potential in an impactful way.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to aspiring writers?

Start and don’t stop. Don’t edit early chapters until you’ve typed, ‘the end’. Yes, I’m guilty of this, but I’m working on it.

Showcase your books!

How many books have you written and if more than one, what’s your favourite?

Regna Born is my debut. My plan is to write about two adepts. Gabriel and Kory and merge their story lines.

How long did Regna Born take you to write?

Three years because I’m still working on my aforementioned writing process. The current WIP will take much less time. I hope!

Lastly, what is your favourite thing about being an author?

Reaching people with my art and hoping it brought some joy to their lives.
