A Kingdom Of Dreams Book Review – Sam Northman

For my indie book of the month in August I went with A Kingdom Of Dreams by Sam Northman. I’d seen some very impressive reviews for this book and after asking for recommendations on threads it came up a few times so I thought why not give it a go.

I’m excited to do the A Kingdom Of Dreams book review but I have to say one thing, the ending I’m totally still in denial about but once you read the review you’ll know why! I did find the book a little difficult for my dyslexic brain but once I made my own pronunciations for the words I was fine.

Spoilers will be in italics so if you’ve not read the book keep an eye out for them to avoid them.

A Kingdom Of Dreams Synopsis

In modern-day Boston, CEO Markus Embla’s controlled life unravels after a chance encounter triggers memories of a past life. Meanwhile, nurse Faron Ask, haunted by ominous dreams, turns to Markus for help when reality and nightmares blur.

Drawn together, they race to uncover their forgotten shared history while facing threats from Valkyries, shapeshifters, and sorceresses determined to keep them apart and prevent their ancient powers from awakening.

The battle for Ragnörak begins in A Kingdom of Dreams, the first book in the Viking Bloodlines Saga.

Overall Rating – 4.3/5

Want to know how I got my overall rating for A Kingdom Of Dreams? Take a look below and find out what I thought about the book and why I’m looking forward to the next instalment! Let me know if you think I’ve been way too nice, a little harsh or do you think I’m spot on?

These are just my opinions, I really liked A Kingdom Of Dreams but I know others will have different opinions, so let me know what they are and let’s all read great books!

Plot – 4

I found the plot to be exciting, immersive and well thought out. It was a little slow in places but I feel that was in the beginning of the book which is the case with most books. However, the rest of the plot was fast-paced, full of action, mystery and epic battle scenes.

Charachters – 4.6

Most people might think that Marcus is the main character of the novel but I don’t think that. I love Faron, I loved his growth over the entire book and the only thing I didn’t like about him was his choice in footwear, get some dunks and chuck the chunks.

Lief is my second favourite, he’s super cute, his passion for coffee matches my passion for reading and the end, him in that hospital bed killed me!

Ending – 4.5

So we all know I’m not the fan of endings, they can be so hit or miss but for the most part, it was a total hit. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was Lief in that hospital bed, I need him back please and as soon as possible. Not to mention the questions, so many questions left unanswered that I need to know the answers to! I literally cannot wait to read the second book and hopefully it’ll be as good, if not better than this one.

Emotional Factor – 4

I am a very emotional reader, crying comes hand in hand with reading most of the time and that’s fine with me. I cried, cheered and couldn’t put this book down. There weren’t many cry-worthy moments however, I found that the most upsetting part was when Leif was in his coma, oh and when Misty died I cried with joy.

Spice – 3.5

There was a little spice, it was smoking hot but the book wasn’t full of it. I never add the spice factor into my overall rating because some books obviously have spice whereas others don’t.
