About The Author

Tell us more about you

Hi! Thanks for having me today. I grew up in a very small town (approximately 700 people) with a very active railroad and farming community (the trains came through to fill up with grain or just passed through on their way to wherever they were delivering their goods). I’m a teacher of 26 years, a mom of two older teens, and I’ve been publishing since 2014. My favourite colour is PURPLE with BLUE a close second.

What are the three items you’d take on a deserted island?

Are we assuming there’s fresh water and fruit? If so, then I’d probably try to take some sort of solar-powered battery charger, one of those crank flashlights, and an all-purpose knife.

Who is your biggest role model?

Honestly, I have more than one. My parents were my first role models because they taught me to stand up for what is right, treat people fairly, and to work hard for what you want. I also look up to my fellow authors in LGBTQ+ romance. Whether they are raking in the money or struggling to make a sale, I strive to be as creative, talented, and hard working as so many of them are. And I look up to several friends who are just out there killing it and living their dreams.

What is your favourite book and who is your favourite author?

You do realise what an incredibly hard question this is, right? 🙂 There are so many favourite books to choose from. Same with authors. If you’re going to MAKE me pick, I’ll have to say the Hazard-verse books by Gregory Ashe. I listened to all of those books (there are several books in multiple series) on audio, and Gregory Ashe is truly fantastic.

Do you prefer e-books, physical books or audiobooks?

Yes. Hahaha. Seriously, at any one time, I’m probably reading an ebook, paperback, and audio. I listen to non-fiction as I get ready for school in the mornings. I listen to fiction as I drive to/from work and take walks. I read paperbacks whenever I have the time.

Is writing your full-time profession or a hobby?

I am a teacher of 26 years, along with writing/publishing my books. My books don’t pay my bills, but I’m okay with that because I like teaching and I like being able to write without the pressure of needing the words to flow so I can make a mortgage payment.

What social media platform do you like and use the most?

I’m still on Facebook the most, but Instagram, Threads, and Bluesky are a close second. I also have a Discord channel. Plus, there’s a fun group on Circle for readers. All of my social media spots can be found at my LinkTree.

Your Writing Process

How do you go about starting a new novel?

I usually get an idea for a character or a story and slowly start building it in my head while taking notes here and there. Then, once it feels ready to come to life on paper, I sit down and get started.

Where do you like to write?

I do most of my writing at home at my desk. I do sometimes enjoy writing at a coffee shop.

What do you like most about writing?

I always end up feeling like I’ve gained new friends and family by the time I finish the story.

What do you find stops you from writing more?

Current events, my kids having things going on, my brain not being able to shut down, the story not being “ready” to come out and play.

What genres do you like to write and why?

I love love 🙂 I love to read romance and I love to write romance. I particularly enjoy reading and writing LGBTQ+ romance. By definition, a romance must have a Happily Ever After or at least a Happy For Now. There’s enough bad in the world, I want that guaranteed happily ever after when I’m reading. And there’s nothing like watching your favourite character finally get the HEA they deserve.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to aspiring writers?

Just write. Write when an idea strikes. Write when you’re feeling off. Write when you’re happy. The more you write, the better you become. Read a lot, as well. And seek out your favourite authors—look for interviews or classes or tidbits from them about their writing advice. Write what you’d want to read. It’s very hard to spend so many hours writing something you as a reader wouldn’t even want to pick up and read once it’s finished.

Showcase your books!

How many books have you written and if more than one, what’s your favourite?

I’m not exactly sure on the current number, but I know it’s more than 50. With that many, it’s very hard to pick just one. A couple of my top faves in no particular order:

How long did Jett & Leighton: On Cravenwood Block take to write?

My books can take anywhere from 3 months to 18 months to write depending on my mental and physical health, what’s going on in the world around me, and my schedule.

Lastly, what is your favourite thing about being an author?

Aside from getting to tell my characters’ stories, I love the readers. There’s nothing like connecting with readers over my books and hearing that the story touched them in some way. Without my readers, it would be very hard to keep telling stories.
